Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Trainee Membership
The Trainee Membership is available to all undergraduates, graduates, predocs, postdocs, clinical fellows and residents at UCLA. Trainee members must have an interest in cancer related disciplines and, the ability and willingness to contribute to the cancer center programs and activities. You will have access to a community of cancer trainees and mentors, programs, seminars, educational events, career development opportunities, and more.
Program Area
Applicants should indicate on the application form the Cancer Center Program that best fits their primary area of interest. The Cancer Center currently operates six research programs:
- Cancer & Stem Cell Biology
- Cancer Control & Survivorship
- Cancer Molecular Imaging, Nanotechnology & Theranostics
- Epigenomics, RNA, & Gene Regulation
- Signal Transduction & Therapeutics
- Tumor Immunology
Applicants whose interests lie outside any of the defined Cancer Center Programs should explain their situation by describing their cancer-related activities briefly on the application form and we will place them into one of our research programs.
Application Review Process
Applications for trainee membership are reviewed on an annual basis by the JCCC Office of Cancer Training and Education. During the initial application and annual review processes, supplemental materials and information may be requested. Applicants must meet one of the evaluation criteria listed below. Additional consideration will be given to applicants who do not meet the criteria listed.
Evaluation Criteria
- Current undergraduate, graduate, predoc, postdoc, clinical fellow, or resident
- Cancer-relevant interest or participation in cancer training programs/activities
- Developing a cancer-focused project that show significant promise
Membership Privileges
- Access to connect with various JCCC research programs and extended cancer center network

- Access to support for cancer related activities and events
- Access to attend/participate in other UCLA, state and national level education and training activities
- Inclusion in JCCC communications, meetings, retreats, symposiums, seminars and other events

- Opportunity to become a Trainee Ambassador
Membership Obligations
- Active participation in trainee and center-wide activities
- Adhere to the NIH Data Sharing Policy as applicable, including registration of all necessary and appropriate clinical trials in the Clinical Trials.gov registry
- All associate members must acknowledge JCCC support as appropriate in publications and in presentations/media coverage, etc. Include the following acknowledgment in appropriate publications: Supported by the NIH/NCI under award number P30CA016042 and used the [name of the CCSG shared resource(s) if applicable]
- Provide all requested information in a timely manner to the JCCC Office of Training and Education administrative team for inclusion in the yearly Cancer Center Support Grant reports and submissions.
- Provide ROI data over a 4-year period. Even if/when no longer affiliated with UCLA.
